Key Points
- Pragmata's PS5 Pro version now features a 1080p internal resolution.
- The update improves ray tracing and overall image quality.
- The game previously used PSSR2 to upscale from 864p to 4K.
- Potential for minor frame rate drops in demanding areas.
A new patch has been released for Pragmata, enhancing the visuals on PlayStation 5 Pro. The game, which was already performing well on the PS5 Pro hardware, has received a significant upgrade with the installation of Patch 1.21.
Resolution Boost and Image Quality
The update increases the internal resolution of Pragmata on the PlayStation 5 Pro from 864p to 1080p. Previously, the game used PSSR2 to upscale the image to 4K. Although the lower base resolution was partially compensated by the PS5 Pro's exclusive PSSR upscaling, reflections weren't as sharp as they could be. This has been addressed in the new patch, leading to a noticeable improvement in image quality.
Digital Foundry noted the difference, especially in geometry and effects with long, straight lines or edges. The higher resolution may potentially cause some dropped frames, although VRR displays should help mitigate these fluctuations.
Performance Considerations
While the performance doesn't seem to be noticeably worse, there is a possibility that the most demanding areas may run at slightly lower frame rates. Performance drops occurred primarily in cutscenes, where Diana's computationally intensive hair took up a larger portion of the screen than usual. Performance drops also occurred in some battles. The PS5 Pro was generally the console that was most likely to reach 60 fps.
Benefits for New Players
Players who have not yet started Pragmata on the PS5 Pro will benefit the most from the improved presentation with the latest patch installed. This update provides a sharper and more detailed visual experience, enhancing the overall gameplay.
The Technical Details
Digital Foundry's initial tests show sharper ray tracing. The game also received native support for the improved PSSR upscaler after launch. The lower base resolution on the Pro was not a bug, as developers often lower render resolution to free up GPU resources for ray tracing, with the PSSR AI chip then upscaling the image.
