  • Jack Quaid voices Phranque, a talking gelatinous cube companion.
  • Perlina Lau plays Rue, an enchanted ribbon on Phranque's sword.
  • The game was shown with gameplay but lacks a release date.

Following its reveal during a recent State of Play event, details are emerging about the cast behind God of War Laufey. Actors involved in the project are sharing insights into their roles, offering a glimpse into the narrative and character dynamics of the upcoming installment.

New Voices, Familiar Faces

Deborah Ann Woll, who previously lent her voice to Faye as a memory in God of War Ragnarok, is reprising her role for God of War Laufey. This time, however, Woll will explore Faye as a complete person, moving beyond Kratos's recollection. She described Faye as someone who "straightens her back, grips her sword, and does what she must do to move forward" when facing adversity, highlighting the character's resilience.

Joining the cast is Jack Quaid, known for his work on The Boys. Quaid voices Phranque, a unique character described as a talking gelatinous cube. Quaid also performed motion capture for the role, utilizing a specialized frame to represent Phranque's cubic form in-game. Quaid expressed his excitement, calling it "a dream come true" to voice an original character in a universe he admires. Perlina Lau takes on the role of Rue, an enchanted ribbon that is attached to Phranque's sword. This marks both Quaid's and Lau's debut in the video game industry.

"I love that I get to explore who Faye really is. She's no longer just the memory Kratos has of her. Now she's a complete person. (...) I admire her deeply. Who is she really? And can she find her completeness?" — Deborah Ann Woll, Actor

Gameplay and Development Status

God of War Laufey was featured with approximately 20 minutes of gameplay during the recent State of Play presentation. This extended look provided players with a preview of the game's mechanics and the introduction of Phranque as a companion character who fights alongside Faye. Despite the gameplay showcase, Santa Monica Studio has not yet announced a release date for the title, confirming only that it is currently in development. This marks the second major God of War project in development, following the earlier announcement of a remake for the original trilogy.

This new entry continues the narrative of the God of War series, expanding the lore and introducing new gameplay elements. The focus on character depth, particularly for Faye, suggests a narrative-driven experience. The addition of Phranque as a combat companion also hints at new strategic possibilities in gameplay.
